About ABD Federal Credit Union
ABD Federal Credit Union was established in October 1947 to serve the employees of Briggs Manufacturing. The name “ABD” originated from the Auto Beauty Division of Briggs Manufacturing, which the credit union originally represented.
Over time, Briggs Manufacturing was acquired by Chrysler Corporation, now Stellantis, and ABD expanded its field of membership to serve Chrysler employees. Mack Stamping was the first Chrysler-owned facility represented by ABD. The credit union’s first office was located on Mack Avenue in Detroit, and our first member was Ken Morris, formerly of Region 1B.
In 1967, ABD established its Mound Road office in Warren, Michigan, which became the credit union’s main headquarters. Today, ABD operates three offices located in Warren, Michigan; Detroit, Michigan; and Belvidere, Illinois.
Over the years, ABD has continued to grow and expand its reach by absorbing several credit unions, including McGraw Glass, Indianapolis Foundry, Belvidere, Mt. Elliott, and CJ Federal. What began as a small credit union serving Mack Stamping and Vernor Tool & Die has grown into a full-service financial institution serving members connected to Belvidere, Jefferson North Assembly, Mack Engine, Marysville, Sterling Heights Assembly, Sterling Stamping, Transportation, the WCM Academy, and many other Chrysler/Stellantis facilities.
ABD has faced many challenges throughout its history, including the ups and downs of the auto industry. Through it all, the credit union has remained strong, committed, and dedicated to serving its members.
We proudly serve UAW Locals, their families, and our communities. ABD is deeply devoted to supporting our youth and giving back through community outreach and service initiatives. Over the years, our staff has participated in March of Dimes walks, Habitat for Humanity building projects, Toys for Tots, the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, and partnerships with the Nancy Boykin Continuing Education School for Teenage Mothers. ABD has also supported the Detroit and Hamtramck Fire Departments by donating teddy bears to comfort children affected by fires and help ease their trauma.
Each year, ABD proudly contributes to the Sandra Dix Retiree Scholarship through the UAW Local 1700 Retiree Chapter, helping qualified students receive scholarship assistance toward their college education. These are just a few of the many community outreach projects we are passionate about. In addition, ABD continues to support other charitable organizations and worthy causes that strengthen and benefit our communities, especially programs that support and invest in our youth.
As ABD Federal Credit Union continues to grow and evolve, we remain committed to adapting to the changing needs of our members and communities. Today, ABD Federal Credit Union offers a full range of financial products and services, including mortgages, auto loans, signature loans, recreational loans, Share Savings accounts, certificates of deposit, competitive-rate credit cards, debit and ATM cards, and 24/7 account access through Telephone Banking, Online Banking, and the ABD Mobile App. Our goal is to enhance our members' financial well-being by offering the highest-quality financial services.
